3rd Walk for Sarcoma (Saturday June 11, 2005) in support of National Sarcoma Awareness Week:

It took a 17 person relay team 12 hours and 45 minutes to complete the walk from the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Marshfield to the Marathon Park in Wausau (about 45 miles).  People walked as little as 1 mile or as much as they felt able. I want to thank all of the people from the Marshfield Clinic, the Rib Mountain Repeater Association and the Wisconsin Valley Radio Association who participated in this year's event to raise awareness about sarcoma and funds for research.

A Tug-O-War Competition was going to be held on the day of the walk at Hanna's Henhouse on County Road P in Edgar.  The competition was cancelled, but Tom still held a fund raising event at Hanna's to raise funds for Sarcoma Alliance and Sarcoma Foundation of America.

W4S special event station was on the air during the event.  Frequency used: 14.268 and 7.268 (+/- 25). Band conditions were as good this time as they were last year.  We only had 26 contacts.  The special event station was by Jerry Graebel - W9GLG of the Wisconsin Valley Radio Association. For QSL card contact: Jerry Graebel - W9GLG, 624 E Bridge St, Wausau, WI 54403-3566.

2nd Walk for Sarcoma Awareness
Saturday, August 28, 2004)

It took a 23 person relay team 15.5 hours to complete a walk from the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield to the Marshfield Clinic in Wausau.  People walked as little as 1 mile or as much as they felt able.  We raised $350 and received a lot of publicity. I want to thank everyone for their support in promoting sarcoma awareness to the area.

The local amateur radio club also sponsored a Special Event Station - with the call sign W4S.  The station was on the air making contacts with other amateur radio operators across the USA, Canada, and British Isle during the event, received 95 contacts.

Lee Olson - N9LO, a friend that is very creative, made two walking stick antennas for me to use on my long walk.

Mike Wild - KB9DED drives the support vehicle during the events.
